The moment a plan expires is the moment a customer wants to pay, and the moment they can’t: their data is gone, so they cannot open a website or an app. Many ISPs lose that payment to a phone call, a trip to the shop, or silence. A captive portal payment page fixes it.
What a captive payment page does
When a customer’s plan runs out but they are still connected to your Wi-Fi, the payment page opens in their browser by itself, on your own network. No data bundle is needed. They see their plan and the amount, approve one M-Pesa or bank prompt with their PIN, and they are back online.
How fast it is
In Purple Router the flow is short: the customer joins the Wi-Fi as usual, the payment page opens on its own within a few seconds, they pay in one tap, and the payment settles in real time. Nobody in your office touches anything.
Two ways to pay with no data
- Wi-Fi portal: pops up by itself when the plan has expired.
- SMS payment link: sent before or after expiry. The customer taps it and pays, even with no data, while on your network.
Why ISPs use it
- Fewer “my internet is off” calls.
- Customers pay sooner, so less revenue slips away.
- No manual reconnection: RADIUS renews the plan the moment payment lands.
Where the money goes
Payments go through M-Pesa through your bank, or your own Paybill with Daraja keys, and settle to you. Purple Router never holds your customers’ money.
