Routers fail: lightning, power surges, old hardware. When customer accounts live on the router, replacing it means rebuilding every PPPoE secret, pool and setting, often late at night with customers calling.
Keep customers off the router
In Purple Router, customers, plans and IPs live in Purple Router, not on the router. The router only checks logins with Purple Router RADIUS. That is what makes a swap easy.
The swap in three steps
- Swap the router. Unplug the old one and plug in the new one. No customer accounts were on it.
- Click Reprovision and copy the code. Purple Router writes a fresh script for the new router.
- Paste it in the new router and run. The router links, and customers log back in by themselves with the same login, plan and IP.
Nothing lost, nothing to rebuild
Customers and plans, static and dynamic IPs, balances and history all stay in Purple Router. Router configurations are also backed up automatically, so you can restore settings when you need them.
